This December, the magic of Cirque du Soleil is landing for the first time in the heart of Tarragona with OVO, one of their most colorful, acrobatic, and family-friendly shows. The premiere at the Tarraco Arena features a very special star: Mateo Amieva Brenes, an international artist with roots in the Costa Daurada, who will bring Master Flipo to life – the charismatic and clumsy leader of this vibrant insect colony. From Salou to the World: Mateo Amieva's Journey

Even though he was born in Figueres, Mateo considers himself a Salou native at heart. His career took him from PortAventura to Las Vegas, including productions like Believe with magician Criss Angel and Messi10, the circus tribute to the Argentine star. After 17 years with the company, Cirque du Soleil called him back to lead the new version of OVO, which will kick off its European tour in Tarragona before heading to major cities like London, Rome, or Madrid. “I guess the Tarraco Arena really pushed to bring Cirque du Soleil here for the first time. It's a huge honor for Tarragona to open the European tour,” Mateo shares.

What is OVO? Love, Acrobatics, and Brazilian Energy

The story of OVO takes place in a vibrant insect world. With powerful visuals, acrobatics, and music, the show blends elements from the Amazon rainforest with the humor and sensitivity that Cirque du Soleil is known for. “The show is all about love, friendship, and other human values. It's designed for the whole family,” Mateo explains.

Live Music, Spectacular Costumes, and New Acrobatics

Lasting over an hour and a half, OVO will amaze you with a Brazilian soundtrack performed live and costumes designed to bring each creature to life. Among them is Master Flipo, played by Amieva, who's coming home to make the local audience laugh and feel all the emotions.

A Historic Premiere at Tarraco Arena

For the first time ever, Cirque du Soleil will perform in Tarragona, with the iconic Tarraco Arena becoming the cultural hotspot for the end of the year. “Performing in Tarragona again is super special for me. It's where I grew up as an artist, and now I'm back with an incredible show. Tarragona, get ready!” Mateo says excitedly.
