An unforgettable day at the Tarraco Arena: Concurs de Castells 2024
This year, the Tarraco Arena has vibrated again with the strength, the emotion and the passion of the colles castelleres in the XXIX Concurs de Castells. As every two years, the best castles in the world have been erected here, and the atmosphere has been electrifying from the first moment. This event is not just a competition, it is a celebration of effort, tradition and the spirit of collaboration.
From the early hours of the morning, the crowd was eagerly arriving at the Tarraco Arena. The stands were quickly filled with colorful T-shirts representing the different gangs.
One of the highlights of the day was the constant challenge between three collas that fought for the podium until the last round.
The Castellers de Vilafranca showed once again why they are one of the most admired groups. They managed to win the victory after crowning a "9 de 9 con forro" with three enxanetas, a feat that left the audience breathless. The "Colla Vella dels Xiquets de Valls", managed to complete a majestic "4 of 9 without lining" and an epic "4 of 10 with lining and handcuffs", with an absolute dedication on the part of their castellers. These majestic performances made them come in second place and once again demonstrated the power and courage that characterizes them, fighting until the last second.
Finally, the "Colla Jove Xiquets de Tarragona" gave the local audience an exciting show by unloading the "2 of 9 with lining and handcuffs" and a solid "3 of 10 with lining and handcuffs", obtaining a meritorious third place in this disputed competition. The pride of the group and the city was felt in every applause, and finally after six years, they managed to position themselves again on this podium.
But beyond the results and the crowned castells, what has become clear is that the Concurs de Castells is much more than a competition. It is a sample of the collective effort, of the determination of each group and of the community feeling that permeates every corner of the Tarraco Arena. The faces of the castellers when completing a tower, the hugs after each victory and the gestures of respect between rival groups remind us that, in the end, the most important thing is not the podium, but the journey, the shared experience and the passion for a tradition that is still alive in the hearts of all.
