The Tosca Opera is coming to Tarragona

The San Miguel Tarraco Arena is super important for keeping culture alive in Tarragona. That's why, on Friday, July 28th, it's hosting a night packed with culture and drama. Tosca Opera will sweep you away into a world of emotions.

So, what's Tosca Opera all about?

It's a super intense opera by Giacomo Puccini, with a libretto by Luigi Illica, that first premiered in Rome back in January 1900. It's known for having three acts. Tosca, along with Madame Butterfly and La Bohème, is one of the three most popular operas by the Italian musician. 

The San Miguel Tarraco Arena will host “The Great Opera Night”

 

This super versatile venue in the Mediterranean gets to host one of the most famous cultural works out there. This helps it fulfill its mission of becoming a cultural hotspot in southern Catalonia. Plus, Tosca Opera will be the only major opera production performed in Catalonia this summer. 

On July 28th, this historic building will feature top-notch technical and digital innovations to make the show even more spectacular. They'll have bolder stage designs while staying true to the original music and librettos. So, it'll be able to  take everyone back to Rome in 1800, when Napoleon was beating the Austrians on the battlefield. 

At the press conference, Tarragona's mayor, Rubén Viñuales, pointed out that hosting the only major opera production in Catalonia this summer really puts Tarragona on the map as a cultural hub. Meanwhile, Culture Councilor Sandra Ramos reminded everyone about Tarragona's long opera tradition. It goes all the way back to Roman times, and she emphasized that it's culture for everyone. Following the press conference, the media shared the view that Tosca Opera is a show for all kinds of audiences.
